Despite anonymity, the artist Banksy has received enormous
attention. Reportedly, Banksy once counterfeited 10 pound notes with Lady Di’s
image instead of the Queen’s. The notes were thrown to an eager crowd. They are
now collector’s items, each worth hundreds of pounds.
Because of their value, people are selling fakes of Banksy’s
counterfeit on eBay. Buyer beware.
A Banksy fake is worth a lot. A fake Banksy is worthless.
Value is always based on authenticity. That’s why the
Gospels are careful to record the authentication of Jesus. He is the genuine
article. Son of God. Savior of the world.
